Unity Stamp Co and their NEW SMAK Kit....

Today, I wrote a post for the Unity blog, highlighting the January SMAK Kit (SMAK stands for scrapbooking, mixed media, and altered art kit). These kits are new to Unity and have a lot of rubber in them (a whole 8.5 x 11 sheet of high quality red rubber!!).

The numbers in the kit really spoke to me, and that's how this project all started. I was going to create a layout with a banner, and then it turned into this paper pieces wall art. I've taken some close up images of the stamping, so that you can see this kit in action! Some stamping is so subtle (like on the tent top).

I did use some Spellbinders™ Nested Pennants to make the big banners at the top and the banner in the middle. I did a lot of outlining and some drawing with a black ink pen.

This is how the project started, playing with Distress Stains and Distress Inks, and water (both drops and drips) on watercolor paper:

When I first saw the new Grand Dahlia die templates from Spellbinders, I knew that they could be used in so many different ways, especially for home décor projects. So far, I've been able to make large hanging ornaments, a decorative pillow, and now these cute Dahlia Bowls made from glue, water, felt, and paper. My next project is a layout, where I cut all the die templates at once, then inverted every second cut to take advantage of the double-sided paper, and to create a funky Grand Dahlia. I only made one, and decided to cut it into two pieces, so that it covered each side of the layout.

Up the Street Scrapbooking - January Kits

The January kits from Up the Street Scrapbooking are up and available!

I've had the opportunity to work with both kits this month, and will be posting more work later in the month. Both kits are different from one another, and you get extremely different looks with what you end up creating. Tara, from Up the Street, did a fantastic job as usual, pulling together coordinating products that just make it SO easy to whip together layouts. I loved cutting out some banners from patterned paper, and even making my own little banner in the "Be Real" layout.

My sister is a photographer (Vine Images Inc) and loves using unique props. She asked me to make her a banner for Valentine's and I thought that using Shimmerz to make it would be perfect!

The cool thing is, you can easily make these at home for your own photo shoots.

I pulled out Razzel Dazzel Berry Vibez and Cotton Candy Spritz, two beautiful pink colors, to make the tags for the banner. So simple, easy and cute cute cute!

NOTE:

The banner below was embellished AFTER the video with some stamping

and ink around the edges.

Unity December Kit of the Month

In case you need a couple of quick card ideas for a special friend, here are some ideas using Unity's December Kit of the Month, "Filled with Love". There are so many great images to work with (see complete kit below).

Sit-Talk-Enjoy

This card was made by die cutting the image and sentiment from the DECEMBER 2011 Kit. I used the same die template (Spellbinders S4-319 Lattice Rectangles) to cut a piece for the back, then used a thin strip of liquid glue for the top only to make "the fold". The flower is a die template as well (Spellbinders S5-067 Anemone Flower Topper). I used a Copic Marker for the chair and some double sided BoBunny Gabrielle paper for the flower.

Sisters by Heart

To make the bottom, I used the same die template as the first card (Spellbinders S4-319 Lattice Rectangles), only I ran it through only 1/3 of the way, then backed it out of the die cut machine. I also wanted to frame the LOVE stamp and sentiment, so you could use any label stamp you have. I used Spellbinders S4-290 Labels Fourteen). I just layered some ribbons for texture, used Copic markers for color, and was missing some RED, so I used some Stickles to make my own little hearts.

Antiqued Tin Foil Flowers with Shimmerz and Spellbinders!

One word: STUNNING. These homemade flowers, made from tin foil are so BEAUTIFUL. I want you to try this. I am so excited by the result that I implore you to give this a try! You will not be disappointed. These are so easy and fun, and you can use any color of Shimmerz Coloringz for different effects.

I haven't been this excited about a technique in some time, and using tin foil is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!

In the kit, you get to play with Core'dinations NEW Kraft Core cardstock (see the red cardstock that has Kraft colorin the middle). I am so excited by this new paper, especially with die cutting and embossing, sanding, etc. I also loved working with the Pink Paislee embossed mistables paper you see as the background (I used Shimmerz Coloringz on it to make it orange). The black markings look like stamps which I appreciate.

I used some Spellbinders die templates to work with the papers (see the leaf, rolled flowers from patterned paper, and the decorative strip of holly).

HERE IS MY FRUGAL GIFT!

I'm glad you're here! I was thinking long and hard about what I wanted to make for you today and with so many Spellbinders die templates at my disposal, the possibilities were endless! I finally settled on a set of homemade gift tags, which if you omit the tools and inks, this gift can me made for under $10.00. You can stamp To: and From: on the back, which is clean and available for a personal message, or you can write the person's name on the front, where there is white space.

This is also the type of project you can do in pieces, and in front of the TV. Make all your die cuts, ink flowers, assembles flowers, assemble tags, etc...

Personally, I love PRACTICAL gifts, things that I can use, and these are totally gift worthy and will dress up any gift beautifully. They can take a bit of time to make, but will get you that response you're looking for. No one will associate this gift frugal, because they can see the heart that goes into handmade tags.

I do hope you enjoy the hop today! Merry EARLY Christmas.

Vintage Christmas Tags

1. Die cut and emboss labels (Spellbinders S4-346 Labels Twenty-Two) from cream cardstock. Leave paper in the die template and use as a stencil and apply Clearsnap ink (Shabby Pink) to the edges using a Clearsnap Stylus with blending foam.

2. Die cut and emboss poinsettias pieces from patterned paper using Spellbinders S5-055 Layered Poinsettia. Leave papers in the die templates and use as a stencil and apply Clearsnap ink (Shabby Pink to Poinsettia and Aqua to Leaf) to the embossed portions on the die cut image (apply Clearsnap ink using a Clearsnap Stylus with blending foam).

3. Die cut and emboss Spellbinders S5-062 Lacey Doily Accents to create a lacey accent to the label.

4. Cut out Christmas images from patterned paper and distress edges with scissors.

5. Glue together poinsettia pieces with Glue Arts Micro Adhesive Squares, adhere gem for the center (Want2Scrap). Bend poinsettia petals to make the flower more dimensional.

6. Assemble tags by adhering items in this order: lacey accent strip, ribbon tied in a bow, poinsettia (with Glue Arts U-Cut-It 3D Foam), leaf, and 2 Christmas images (some with 3D Foam). Punch hole, adhere string.

7. Add Stickles or glitter glue to the top corners of the Christmas images, let dry.

Beautiful Gift Box

1. Using the Spellbinders Grand Calibur die cut machine, cut and emboss 2 grand labels (Spellbinders LF-347 Grand Labels Twenty-Three) from cream cardstock. Leave paper in the die template and use as a stencil and apply Clearsnap ink to the edges using a Clearsnap Stylus with blending foam.

2. Die cut a hole at the top of both labels using Spellbinders S4-190 Labels Four.

3. Cut 2 strips of cardstock (3.5 x 12) to make the sides and bottom. Using a Scor-Pal, score lengthwise at 7 inches. Turn to the width, and score at 1/4 inch in from each side. Because you want the top of the box to fold in, you need to make one more score at the top of the sides. At 1.5 inches (which is the middle), score each side 1/2 way down.

4. Make triangle cuts at the corners. This will make the corners fold in easily.

5. The bottom will be 5 inches total, so glue the bottom pieces together, ensuring a total length of 5 inches (you can use your Scor-Pal for measuring).

6. Using your Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro+ or similar, adhere adhesive strips to the folds, glue box together, one side at a time.

7. Fill with your homemade tags and use one of your tags to decorate the front. Glue sides together once filled with Glue Arts Extreme Adhesive Squares.

8. Stamp Merry Christmas (Unity Stamp Co) onto white paper, ink around edges with Clearsnap ink, and adhere to box with 3D Foam.

It's that time again - the kit reveal for Up the Street Scrapbooking!

I love these kits, and I'm not just saying that! I hope my work shows how much I enjoy working with these. You can enlarge the photos to see more detail.

I was lucky to be able to work with both sides this month, both so different, and so lovely. I particularly fell in love with the color palette of Side #1 Autumn's Embrace, which surprised me, because I tend to stay away from gold and burgundy. What I think happened, is that Up the Street just knows how to put together a SOLID kit that helps your projects come together effortlessly. And I'm not done, I still plan on making more projects with these kits which I'll reveal later in the month.

So I had to dig to find these photos, my son and his CRAFT DAY treat that he made at school. Most kids make cotton balled and paper things, that are fun, but don't make it past the holidays. This year, my son made a Gingerbread House. LUCKY! AN EDIBLE CRAFT! He couldn't wait to eat it.

Spellbinders Contest and DT Projects

It has been 7 months since I started with Spellbinders and I have so much to share. I would say that I've noticed an improvement in my designs and projects with the addition of die templates. Before I made the Spellbinders design team, I had their circles, squares, scalloped circles, etc. The basic shapes, which I mostly used for cards. Since the team, I have started to use so many more shapes and labels, and not just for cards, but as you'll see below, for 3D items, layouts, jewelry, and even felt coasters! Those are particularly easy to make (just get some sheets of cork for the bottom).

DESIGN TEAM CALL:

To Make the Clock:
1. Die cut large clock from cereal box board, stamp matching stamp onto the die cut, then ink around the edges.
2. Die cut additional circle, stamp the clock face onto the circle and adhere it to the main clock with 3D foam.
3. Apply Stickles (Cinnamon) to the entire clock, following the design of the stamped image.

On Saturday on the Unity blog, I used Unity's Store Kit Ticket to Life by Joslyn Nielson.

I thought I would take the opportunity to share it here too, because I love how this layout turned out.

Besidess using Ticket to Life, I also used Carnivale Alpha (Marah Johnson) for the RIDE title.

The paper is Graphic 45 "Le Cirque". I LOVE these colors together. The frame in the middle is a die cut frame from Spellbinders, treated with Shimmerz Enamelz embossing powder (Gold Digger), then I used some Clearsnap Chalk Ink to finish it off.

Hip Hop with Unity and Vintage Street Market

Welcome to this stop on the UNITY HIP HOP for August 18, 2011, our first of two hops showcasing Vintage Street Market products with our Unity stamps.

Many of the Vintage Street Market products can be used to embellish your gift wrapping, so that is what I did! I wrapped up a box for you, stamping on the glossy wrapping paper with Blossom Stackers stamps and Jet Black Staz-on ink. I used the crepe paper that came in the Dimestore Vogue collection and wrapped it around. I then made a tag out of the die cuts and some ribbon, and attached it to the package with U-Cut-It 3D foam from Glue Arts.

I used Blossom Stackers again on the tag to make the stamped and die cut label (die from Blossom Tags and Accents from Spellbinders). I used Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, it's quickly becoming a favorite with me.

And for my second project, I die cut a Spellbinders box (Square Bracket Edge Box) out of the foil paper and then stamped one of the large stamps from Blossom Stackers. The flower on top is the Spiral Blossoms One die from Spellbinders, using the paper from Vintage Street Market.

Before I glued the box top together, I stamped (with Staz-on Ink) the same sentiment on each side "For My Friend".

The lighting was terrible in my craft room. It's hard to imagine that this grey looking foil is actually a beautiful turquoise blue from Vintage Street Market! But you get the idea of how I stamped it.

Spellbinders Idea Gallery and New Site

Spellbinders has a BRAND NEW WEB SITE. It's pretty amazing, has been in the works for months, and is extremely user friendly, and has all the new releases up. It also has an idea gallery and that is where this layout is from.

I used a many of the new Spellbinders releases on this layout, as well as coordinating stamps from Unity Stamp Co. (Samantha Walker stamps). The stamps are designed to coordinate with Spellbinders die templates. That is amazing news for me since I design for both teams and I happen to adore Samantha Walker's designs.

This layout has very few embellishments, most of the detail is done using the die templates with patterned papers and ink. Love the Holly Motifs as a dainty accent. I think I will be using this set a lot.

CHA Releases Spellbinders Edgeabilities and Unity Stamps!

Two companies that I adore happen to work together - I love that.

Unity Stamp Co. has a bunch of new amazing stamps coming out for CHA Summer and Spellbinders has an incredible number of beautiful die templates. I’m thrilled to share two projects using LF-132 Grand Rectangles, LF-133 Grand Scalloped Rectangles, and a set that is part of the new Samantha Walker Designer Collection S5-073 Orchard Harvest Tags and Accents! Below you will see two projects made with die templates from all three sets.

A Back to School Layout

This layout came together easily once I die cut the frame using LF-132 Grand Rectangles and LF-133 Grand Scalloped Rectangles (as seen in the video) and then popped it up on the layout using 3D foam. Once the photo and frame were in place, all that was left to do was embellish. I used the leaves, labels, and flourish that come with S5-073 Orchard Harvest Tags and Accents to finish off the layout.

Note: All cutting and embossing was done using the Grand Calibur™ Machine.

Shimmerz Video Tutorial (Layout) with Petaloo Flowers

I've got a new video up (see below) using Petaloo flowers and some of my very favorite colors of Shimmerz products!

In this video, I chose a beautiful color combination of Shimmerz Spritz, Shimmeringz, and Paints. Since the base of the flowers are white, I was able to alter them to match the look and feel of my photos and papers.
