10.5 inches of my hair - GONE. Today.
Can't say I'll miss it all that much. It was getting so heavy. So this was no big sacrifice on my part, but I wanted to spread the word that you can donate you hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients. It's easy enough to do, but there are restrictions to what hair they will accept (ie cannot be bleached, cannot have more than 5% grey, at least 8 inches long, etc.).
You simply cut it off, place it in a zip loc bag and send it in the mail. EASY. My friend Lisa, a cancer survivor was doing this and told me about it, and I thought it was definitely something I should do.
For Canadians, click here for info. There are several places to send in your hair.
FYI:
It takes approximately 12 donations of unprocessed hair and costs about $1,200 to craft a single hand-sewn wig for a child?
SAYING GOODBYE TO MY HAIR SHOT:
OK - so a little bad on the cutting off part. Definitely need to a visit to a hair salon to fix this lop sided mess! :) It's all good though, it can still be worn in a pony. I saved some hair (you can see it on top) that will make the front longer if I choose.
Have a great weekend all!
Oh wow... what a great thing that you did! I think you look great with the short hair too!! I love that you donated it to such a great cause!!

ReplyDeleteWOOHOO.. good for you. If I didn't have so much grey I would do the same. Amazing Lesley.. someone will be so happy to get your beautiful hair. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are sooo brave doing yourself but even without a formal haircut... I like shorter on you better. Coming from a long hair lover that's the TRUTH!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!! such a great cause! My sister has done this several times, but my poor hair never grows and is processed beyond belief so they wouldn't have me! I love the idea of doing this though, just one of those things that you KNOW is going to the right place. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are simply amazing! So full of talent and love! I can't wait to use your stamps!,
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Last year I cut mine and it's grown almost back now. :) My sister and I want to make it our "thing" to donate our hair together to Locks of Love every 2 years. I want to cut mine again next Summer when it's long enough again. :)
