Did You Notice My NEW BADGE?

I am now, with the release of Unity's MARCH Kit of the Month, a Unity Artista!  What does this mean?  Well, I get to show off this funky badge on my blog, and I get to design art for Unity Stamp Co along with some other amazingly talented artistas.

Here is a sneak of my artwork that is in March's Kit:

So I hope you will be seeing and stamping a lot more of my artwork.  I cannot tell you how special it is to see someone take an image and create a work of art with it.  Makes me happy.

It's a Good Hair Day to Donate

10.5 inches of my hair - GONE.  Today.

Can't say I'll miss it all that much.  It was getting so heavy.  So this was no big sacrifice on my part, but I wanted to spread the word that you can donate you hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients.  It's easy enough to do, but there are restrictions to what hair they will accept (ie cannot be bleached, cannot have more than 5% grey, at least 8 inches long, etc.).

You simply cut it off, place it in a zip loc bag and send it in the mail.  EASY.  My friend Lisa, a cancer survivor was doing this and told me about it, and I thought it was definitely something I should do.

For Canadians, click here for info.  There are several places to send in your hair.

FYI:
It takes approximately 12 donations of unprocessed hair and costs about $1,200 to craft a single hand-sewn wig for a child?

SAYING GOODBYE TO MY HAIR SHOT:

OK - so a little bad on the cutting off part.  Definitely need to a visit to a hair salon to fix this lop sided mess!  :)    It's all good though, it can still be worn in a pony.  I saved some hair (you can see it on top) that will make the front longer if I choose.

Have a great weekend all!

Up the Street Contest - Ends Feb 28th

February kits are available at Up The Street Scrapbooking!  There are 2 beautiful kits to choose from and if you want to win $30.00 in store credit, play along with one of three challenges posted this month on the Up the Street Scrapbooking Blog.

Projects are to be uploaded to the Flickr gallery and you have until the end of the month!  A winner will be randomly chosen on March 1.  Your odds are pretty good - so get playing!

Here is the challenge I came up with using some of the kit contents.

I found these colors so unique to work with!  Hope you can give it a try.  The paper was originally CREAM, but I treated it with Shimmerz (Terra Cotta) and Distress Ink (Victorian Velvet) on the raised parts.

If you happen to buy a kit, you will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Pooey Love or Baby Love, Same Thing Hip Hop

For today's post, I have departed from my usual style and offer up more of a free style page.  I'm curious to know what you think???

JOURNALING:

To me, baby love is pooey love.  It’s the kind of love that allows you to change a diaper, without even minding, well, except for those number 2’s that explode up the back.

Welcome to the UNITY HIP HOP for February 24!

So if you're wondering where Pooey Love came from, you'll have to ask the whimsical Suzi Blu!  She designed the cutest stamp ever, and I just got it in the mail on Tuesday.  Had to use it for a baby page!

Here is the POOEY LOVE stamp itself (retails for $6.50):

PSST - Itty Bitty stamps are BUY 3, get 1 FREE!
Note from Angela:
HOORAY! we have an ITTY BITTY SPECIAL for you. BUY 3 get one FREE! just put 3 itty bitty stamps in your cart and upon checkout write the 4th itty bitty stamp in the COMMENT SECTION! Please include the correct NAME and NUMBER of the stamp. {...and YES! if you buy 6 you get TWO free - and so on} wanna SEE the ITTY BITYY COLLECTION click on the link - DON'T forget to VIEW ALL SEVEN PAGES of them!

And here it is on my layout.

I used the NEW Carnivale Alphas designed by Marah Johnson (retail $25.00) - love these:

This part of the layout and the letters remind me of an old Dennis Lee book we used to read all the time called Aligator Pie.

The paint you see here is Shimmerz (Turquoise and Golden Wheat paints).

And I used the bird cage from Free to Be (retail $25.00):

The birdcage was stamped onto photo paper and spritzed with Shimmerz, then cut out and adhered to the layout.  I hand drew the chain.

TIP TIME:

Use up your brads by finding all the colors that match your layout and make random holes with your piercer.  Then fill the holes with brads.  (see all the brads on the lower half of the layout).

IT'S STILL FEBRUARY!

Just a reminder that Unity has a cool kit club.  Every month, Unity produces CUTE art on a 8.5x11 sheet of rubber just for kit club members!  Here it is:

Spellbinders and Me! Oh My Word!

I have loved Spellbinders dies ever since I got my first batch in 2008!  I got 12 packs of Nestabilities and use them all the time.  Since then, they have developed some of the CUTEST dies, and I want to try them all!

So, I thought I would throw my hat in the ring and try out for their 2011 Design Team, and I am happy to announce that I made the team!  I know it was incredibly hard for them to narrow it down, because those who were included in all rounds have phenomenal talent.

Just in case you wanted to see my entries, here is Round 1 (layout).

Here is the whole team - congrats to the other ladies, can't wait to meet you in April!

Glue Arts Teams up with Fancy Pants (Love Birds)!

We are wrapping up a wonderful week on the Glue Arts Blog, head on over there to leave a comment for a chance to win an amazing prize!

Here is my project, posted today, with instructions over on the Glue Arts Blog.   Leslie Ashe has also created a BEAUTIFUL layout for you today, with the same product from Fancy Pants (Love Birds Collection).  I love how a paper line can have so many different looks, and this is a darn cute paper line!

I have to say, that out of all the Glue Arts product line, I use their U-Cut-It foam a lot!  I like to add dimension to my layouts, and it's a great GO TO product.  I propped up the picture of my husband and me.

Hip Hop Thursday with Unity - LOVE

Good morning and good day!  If you're here for the UNITY HIP HOP  - WELCOME!

LOVE.

Essential.

Precious.

Apparently, BANNERS ARE STILL HOT!  At the WINTER CHA 2011, banners were everywhere.  So with that inspiration and inspiration from the NEW color palette at Color Combos Galore, I pulled out the Unity Stamp Co. set Good Times Vintage Banner ($15.00 in the Unity Store).

PS: Did you know Unity is sponsoring Color Combos Galore for February?  Check it out if want a shot at winning!
TIP TIME:

I distressed my banner pieces by coloring them with COPIC markers, then dripping drops of COLORLESS BLENDER onto the paper.  The colorless blender PUSHES the color out of the way!  You can get a hold of a BIG bottle of the blender and try a whole lot of distressing techniques.

You can also see I used a Unity ALPHABET stamp set to dress up my flags, called JUST MY TYPE.
I really love this stamp from a past KOM (Nov 2010 Kit - Picture Perfect - Stamp - do all things with love).    I loved the idea of these HANGING hearts (Fancy Pants Paper - cut out with my Silhouette).  I envisioned the stitching, and how it might look, and I must say that I like the result!  I even DOODLED around the hearts with a thicker black ink pen.

The big LOVE letters were cut with my Silhouette.
