CHF Challenge Chicks: A Sketch!

For this Monday, we are taking our inspiration from a sketch which can be seen at CHF. Here is my take on it, using Little People Collage Stamp, and "just a note" from Script Essential Expressions. I picked up that little frame at the dollar store, cut a little piece of paper to place on back, and used clear lacquer to make it glossy.

If you have some CHF stamps and want to play along, just upload your card at CHF and let us know in the forum that you've played along and we can oogle your design!
Supplies: Stamps (CHF), Paper (Cosmo Cricket, Rusty Pickle, Bo Bunny, Prism), Die Cut (Making Memories), Chipboard (Basic Grey), Ink (Ranger Distress Inks, Staz-on), Other (Spellbinders Nestabilities, Cuttlebug).

CHF Backgrounder Blitz

I need to spread the word - giveaways happening!

Quote from the CHF Forum:

The week before the next backgrounder release, we’re going to be focusing on innovative ways to use backgrounders and we’ll have daily challenges with designer samples.

We’d love you to play along too! Design some backgrounder projects and upload them to our CHF gallery. The more samples you upload the better, because it increases your chances of winning some backgrounder stamps.

Each day, two names will be randomly drawn from the Backgrounder Challenge submissions and each winner will receive a backgrounder stamp. Sound like fun?! Now because we really want you to play along…we’re giving you some advance notice of the challenges. That way you can work around YOUR schedule. We know how busy life gets. It doesn’t really matter when you create your challenge designs…you can start now.

The Backgrounder Blitz kicked off this Friday (past) evening at 7 pm EST in the CHF Forums. Make sure you stop by for a chance to win then as well. Challenges start on Saturday April 19, and follow through each day including Friday April 25, the release date for our new latest backgrounders. The list of challenges is below. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have on this thread. I hope you can join us!

CHF Challenge Chicks! What I Love About CHF...

Well, there are quite a few things, but let me name three reasons:

1. CHF promotes and sells only the BEST and TESTED products. Distress Inks and Ranger products come to mind.

2. The images are so versatile and can suit any stamper or scrapbooker.

3. I love that CHF is committed to helping people stamp their images to their full potential (ie techniques, blog tutorials, etc.) See Technique Talk here to learn new stamping techniques.

Going back to my Number 2 - I have created a layout using 2 CHF backgrounder stamps (Grid Paper and Large Polka Dots). I know that typically, backgrounders are perfect for card making, but I couldn't wait to put them to the test on other projects. I applied the grid paper backgrounder 2 times to make a pattern on the cardstock. I also used the large polka dots to create a piece of patterned paper as an accent. FUN possibilities here. And they have so many backgrounders available too. I could find ways to use them all on projects other than cards.

Check out the other CHF girls playing along this week!

CHF Challenge Chicks! A Distress Ink Challenge...

If you have these inks, any of them, you will fall in love! These inks by Tim Holts for Ranger Industries have phenomenal stamping, distressing, and blending capabilities, not to mention a WIDE range of colours with re-inkers available. Right now, they are on sale at CHF, you can find them here > Distress Inks. To showcase these inks and to have a little fun, the challenge chicks at CHF have been working with distress inks to show you what can be done with them.

I used Mustard Seed as my distress ink for today's challenge. I used CHF stamps from The Rummage Bin: Story Book, The Ticket Counter, Mona Lisa Moment: Cardmaker's Shapes, and Kim Hughes: Silhouette Blooms II. I love the look of the distress ink on photo paper, which you can see on my ticket and corner embellishment. Thanks for looking!

The Greatest Gift

Hmmm...I was thinking of what I could show you, something new. And since I have been scrapping lately (as opposed to card making), I will show you my newest layout. The pictures go back about 2.5 years! And I had a whole bunch of them printed, so I cut them all up and used multiple photos for this layout.

Is anyone out there tired of the 1 photo layouts? Don't get me wrong, I adore white space and have been known to mostly craft 1 photo layouts. I am now deliberately trying to use 2+ photos. For goodness sake - I have so many images I need to scrap!!!

Supplies:
Paper: Making Memories, Flair Designs, Rusty Pickle, Autumn Leaves
Flowers: Prima
Brads: Making Memories
Chipboard: Basic Grey
Stamps: Cornish Heritage Farms (flourish from Beautiful Set, clock from Time to Stamp, hearts from Hugs and Kisses, sheep from Primitive Beginnings)
Markers: Copic
Clip: Heidi Swapp
Eyelets: Karen Foster

Other: fabric paint, ribbon, pins, effloresce font

CHF Challenge Chicks! A Flocking Challenge...

The design team at CHF has come together to create weekly challenges and this one is the first! A flocking challenge! This is the first time I've tried it, as I FINALLY got my glue pad to be able to use flocking. However, if you don't have a glue pad, you can stamp an image and go over it with liquid glue to adhere the flocking. There is also a great tutorial with tips from Kristine Reynolds. Click here for the tutorial. If you want to play, upload your card to the CHF gallery and put FLOCKING in your keywords.

Instructions:
1. Stamp willow tree once with green staz-on.
2. Stamp again with glue pad (avoid applying glue to the tree trunk), and don't worry about stamping over the original image, the flocking will add a nice layer and texture to your tree.
3. Apply green flocking to the image, ensuring coverage.
4. Remove excess flocking right away and scrap areas of the tree to remove flocking here and there.
5. Colour in the tree trunk with a brown marker.
6. Take a black pen and outline some of the tree branches.
7. Stamp saying from Time to Stamp.
8. Stamp swirl from Story Book.
9. Apply shimmery green and blue chalk from Pebbles Inc. to your card.

Other CHF chicks playing.... (see links to your left)....Alli, Kristine, Julia, Dawn, Sherrie, Lisa Strahl, Julie, Lori Craig, and Lisa Silver.

All stamps by CHF, paper: Basic Grey, chalk: Pebbles Inc, ink: Staz-on, glue pad, flocking: CHF.

The Square Card!

I just love the 6x6 square card. I think it is because it reminds me of a scrapbook layout, which is my first love. I tend to cluster items together in one area to create a focal point, and try to leave some white space. For details of these cards, please click on the cards. It will take you to the card in my CHF gallery.

I don't have a link for this card, so I will tell you what I did for this one. I printed out a photo of my grandparents from the 1930's. I took 2 Copic Markers and coloured in their clothing for fun. The flourish stamp is from my Beautiful Set available at CHF. See below. For added colour to the black and white, I added pink marker to the flourishes and threw in some pink gems for bling. Paper and Brad: Making Memories, Prima Flower, Bazzill Cardstock, VersaColor Pink Ink.

Paper Crafts Button Up Challenge

This is one of my submissions to the Paper Crafts on-line gallery contest. I found these buttons at a re-use it centre where I picked up 3 bags of old buttons. They make me happy, and can give any card a unique look.

Tip: Try stamping on ribbon (Strano Ribbon is the best and inks that work well include Staz-on and Ranger's Adirondacks). Some ribbons lend themselves to bleeding, so try a little sample before you start stamping large images/sentiments.

Stamps: Cornish Heritage Farms (Kim Hughes Scripty Words, Rummage Bin: Beautiful, Grid Paper Backgrounder), Paper: Basic Grey and Prima, Die Cut: Basic Grey, Ribbon: Strano and Prima, Ink: Staz-on Jet Black, Other: Buttons, Floss

CPS Sketch #56

CPS Sketch #56 was a whole lotta fun! I have had this moose stamp since January and only used it a couple times on layouts. So here it is, the focal point of my card for the CPS sketch. Here is the whole stamp set, designed for my fellow Canadians!

The Great Canadian Stamp Set from Cornish Heritage Farms:

For Mary's Challenge

Quoted from Mary's blog:

The Challenge if you choose to accept is to make a card and your focal image can not be stamped...it has to be from a book, a magazine, some other type of art medium that is not a stamp. You can use stamps, but not for your focal image. =)Please add a comment and a link to your card that you made for this challenge, between now and next Friday, March 21, 2008. On Friday, March 21, 2008, I will pick a winner from the comments that link to your cards and I have an awesome prize package for the winner......

And check out Mary's card "Vintage Fairies"! It's beautiful!

Here is my take on the challenge - a picture from Classic Pooh.

Sneak Peek of a NEW CHF Stamp from The Rummage Bin!

A few design team members have been working with 2 new collage stamps that I had the pleasure of designing for Cornish Heritage Farms' Rummage Bin line. This one is called Little People. The release day is officially tomorrow! The vision I had in mind for these stamps was to create a collage piece that could be used on cards, for Artist Trading Cards, and Altered Art. Not to forget my fellow scrapbookers, I am also playing with these stamps on layouts and tags. The stamp size was designed so that you could have a nice large stamp/focal point and have plenty to colour. Don't panic! Even if you don't colour, the stamps work well just inked up and distressed around the edges! The only colour I added to my card below was a light pink for the dress and askin coloured copic marker for the little girl's face, legs and arms. For a great monochromatic card, check out Lori Craig's gorgeous card (link below).

You can also check out the following blogs to see more sneaks: Lisa Strahl, Lisa Silver, Kristine Reynolds, Sherrie Siemens, Julia Stainton, Alli Miles, and Lori Craig.

Supplies:
Paper: My Mind's Eye

Ink: Staz-on Timber Brown, Ranger Distress Ink Vintage Photo, VersaColor Bark, Adirondack Lake Mist.

Stamps:
Cornish Heritage Farms: The Rummage Bin - Little People
Cornish Heritage Farms: The Rummage Bin - Beautiful (Flourish)
Cornish Heritage Farms: Kim Hughes - Scripty Words (smile)

Other: Ribbon, 7 Gypsies Photo Anchor, Brad, Copic Marker

Thank you for coming over to check out my blog. I appreciate it and hope you like what you see. :)

Kim Hughes Does it Again!

Cornish Heritage Farm has released 2 more sets designed by Kim Hughes and I can't wait to get my hands on them!

BOLD CURLS is a fresh take on flourishes, with nice thick lines and I am very excited to use them on my layouts especially. I think they would look great stamped on photos and popping out from behind photos.

U R A HOOT sees the return of more cute owls with mix and match hats, as well as many different words and sentiments to go along with them!

Seeing as I don't have these yet, I asked the Design Team at CHF if I could borrow some of their cards to show you examples of these stamp sets in action. See below designs from Lisa Silver, Lori Craig, and Julie Campbell.

And a new designer for CHF, Aimee Nugent just came out with a BIG bunch of stamps that are very cool, very distressed, and I am so happy I get to design with them. A card to share and some winter pics!

Here is a card I made today using Kim Hughes Supah Star! stamp set by Cornish Heritage Farms. How fun are these stamps! I picked up the "record disk" die cuts at Forever Scrapbooks while I was teaching my class. Who can resist 50% off! Here are 2 pics of us at the Christmas Tree Farm back in December. It was quite cold that day and Mark just had to find the perfect tree! Most people came to the farm and took a tree that was close to the parking lot, but not my husband. He went on a mission. Grandma and Aunt Jeannette turned back and went to the warmth of the coffee shop. We carried on and here is what we did to pass time. Uncle John played with the kids, and Mark and Grandpa cut down the tree. Below is a nice shot of cold-nosed grandpa and Sophie.

Forever Scrapbooks Class....Feb 23rd.

I am just preparing for my class next week at Forever Scrapbooks in Burlington. It is on using acrylic stamps and heat embossing. It's amazing what you can do with stamps alone to take a plain piece of paper and make it into a lovely layout. This is a picture that Cindy took of me with her new Nikon camera last time I was in the store. If you are in the area, you really should check out the store. I believe the ladies went to CHA and might be back with lots of new goodies!

CHF Anything but a Card Challenge - CHA Week

So - tonight's challenge with some girls from the CHF Design Team is to create anything BUT a card. Using CHF's Grid Paper Backgrounder, I created the background from Prism cardstock and went on to embellish this cover of a mini photo album. I also used Spellbinder's Nestabilities, Webster's Pages from a Scraptivity Kit, Luxe Designs rub-ons, Pebbles Inc. Stickers, VersaColor Ink, and a Scenic Route chipboard circle.

    The Rummage Bin: Ledger Me

Hi All! I wanted to share with you a couple of cards I made using CHF's new set, The Rummage Bin: Ledger Me. I originally wanted to use this with ledger paper, but thought I could also use them on cards just with the coffee stain alone. Thanks for coming to take a peek! If you want to see what other designers have done with the set, please visit the gallery here.
