Unity Hip Hop, Ode to Mark

Welcome to the UNITY HIP HOP for March 10 2011!

Today's Scrapbook Thoughts:
I often get drawn into using papers and flowers, and other products that are feminine and call for pictures of girls.  If I took a tally of my layouts, I would see 70% of my daughter Sophie.  Last year, and this year, I will continue to remind myself to document my husband and boys in my pages more often.  I want them to feel loved, and know what it is I am thankful for, and how they change and improve my life.

We are coming up to 10 years of marriage!  It amazes me.  I don't tell him enough, but I am so lucky to know him and feel so blessed to have a husband like Mark.

I paper pieced the heart, the rainbow piece for inside.

I stamped this sentiment in some white space that NEEDED SOMETHING.  I always find stamps are a good fall back when you feel something is needed to fill some space.  And you know what, Mark and I had that immediate connection.  Right from the start, it felt like we knew each other already.  It was just so easy and comfortable and lovely.

TIP TIME:

Be mindful of your color palette.  I tried to stick to 4 colors (red, light blue, yellow, and pink).  It makes for a more cohesive layout and it will look like everything belongs.  Imagine if I threw something green in there.  Where would your eye go?

Have You Heard of Fabric Bond?

Fabric Bond is an innovative product by Glue Arts.  Essentially, it adheres 2 pieces of fabric with adhesive that you melt to set, with an iron.  It is VERY easy to use and is perfect for those who don't sew, or you would like to embellish the front of a purse with something, and sewing is not an option.

I used Fabric Bond on this upcycled purse to adhere a ribbon strip on the bottom, and to adhere a canvas "stamped" image to the front.

Check out full instructions on the Glue Arts blog.  There is also a CHALLENGE  going on right now, so make sure to have a peek to see if it's something you would like to participate in.

If you have the Glue Glider Pro, you can purchase the Fabric Bond cartridge for $6.49 US.
Here is a great chart I found on the Glue Arts site, of all the cartridges you can buy with the Glue Glider PRO (very helpful):

From Glue Arts Blog:
All projects will be judged on originality and creative use of recycled item(s) and GlueArts adhesives.  One winner will be chosen to receive an amazing gift basket of products from GlueArts, Hero Arts, Plaid, a Provocraft Cuttlebug and Westcott products, valued at more than $250.

Have a wonderful crafty day!

TWO is BETTER than ONE Hip Hop

Welcome to the UNITY HIP HOP for March 3 2011!

Today's Scrapbook Thoughts:

Two is better than one.  I hope these two can see what an amazing blessing it is to have each other.  It will be the longest relationship they will ever have.  It is my hope that my children will love and respect each other, cherish each other, and protect each other throughout the decades to come.

If you're interested in seeing how I stamped on the denim, I created a video tutorial using Shimmerz Vibez and Spritz, you can see it on my You Tube Channel.

TIP TIME:

You don't necessarily have to go out and buy fabric.  Try cutting up old clothing, like denim, spraying it with some mists, and using your Unity Stamps (with PAINT) to dress them up!

IT'S MARCH!

Just a reminder that Unity has a cool kit club.  Every month, Unity produces CUTE art on a 8.5x11 sheet of rubber just for kit club members!  This is the first month where you will see some of my art!

Here it is:
