SLEEPING BEAUTY - Color Combos Galore #158!

Where does the time go.  One minute you have a new born baby, the next thing you know, they're in school!  I created this layout, inspired by the color palette released at Color Combos Galore.  For those of you who don't know what CCG is, it's a group of people who love to be challenged each week by using a pre-determined color palette.  We all post our projects and ogle each other's creations.  When you look at the photo gallery, you can easily see the same colors popping out and it's awesome.  We hope to have more and more people come and be inspired and play along with us.  Since I joined the site, I have been SO aware of my color choices, and ultimately, it has helped me become a better scrapper.

Here is what I did with CCG #158:

Here is the inspiration board:

And here are some close ups of all the product I was able to gather with these colors.  The last thing I added was a flourish stamp from Unity Stamp Co.  I thought this was going to be a stamp free layout, but when I was looking at it, it needed a little something else.  The stamp set is The Artist in You, a set designed by Donna Downey.  I used Mustard Seed Distress Ink which is a favourite ink of mine!

In the shot below, you can see some older Prima flowers, with newer Prima leaves, those postage frames from Tattered Angels, some lovely Prima lace, and Tim Holtz Tissue Tape (that stuff will come in handy on so many projects and I think the roll will last a LONG time).

Oh, and here is the film ribbon from Tim Holtz, a goodie that I recently picked up and I love it!!!  It's made of thin plastic and you can adhere it with any liquid adhesive that dries clear (like Glossy Accents, or Art Glitter Institute Dries Clear Adhesive).  The acrylic tag is also Tim Holtz.  I stamped the date on top with Staz-on.

And that's all for now.  I am in the process of CREATING a super craft room!  So I suspect all my creative energy will be sucked up by this!

Have a wonderful Monday!  Happy Labour Day to both Canadian and US friends.

A HIP HOP and WELCOME FALL

I can't believe that pretty soon the leaves will start turning and the cold brisk nights will be upon us, and many pumpkins will be picked.  I happen to love FALL and I love what I call "jeans & sweater weather".

And what better way to ring in the fall, but with a layout using Unity's Simple Blessings stamp set available in stores.  I had fun using just about every stamp from this set.

  • 3 pumpkins

  • leafy swirl

  • sentiment

  • leaves

I had a ton of fun making the background with a combination of a Luminarte product called RADIANT RAIN, and some Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels.  Below, I stamped the swirl 2 times, and then spiced them up with stickles (orange and cinnamon).

I stamped the 3 pumpkins, cutting out the one in the middle for a pop-up effect.  They are colored with Copic markers.  The lace has been sprayed with various mists.

I stamped the leaves onto white paper, colored them, and inked the edges.

SUPPLIES:
Paper: Basic Grey, Prima, Prism Simply Smooth
Lace: Prima
Stamps: Unity Stamp Co. (Simple Blessings)
Mists: Tattered Angels, Luminarte
Markers: Copic
Ink: Stewart Superior
Stickles: Ranger Industries
Chipboard: Prima

Pink, Kraft, Off-White, and Soft Black....

Makes a lovely color combo wouldn't you say???  It is in FACT, this week's beautiful color combination over at Color Combos Galore - Palette #157.

Here is my take on the colors:

I just picked up these frames made by Tattered Angels, they come with letters, the negative of letters, and all these ticket like frames.  LOVE them!  Inside the frame is a stamp by UNITY Stamp Co. as are the flower stamps (Insightful Meadows by Donna Downey).

Here is a close up of the flowers (a nice backdrop to my pictures), I stamped them in brown and pink ink, then applied some stickles to make them SPARKLE.  The "SNAPSHOTS" is die cut from the Silhouette.  I just have to ask why I resisted so long in buying a machine that could do almost anything you want!

And because I love BUMPY layouts, I decided to twirl my ribbon for fun!  Staples work magic when applying ribbon (but then you can see the metal).  I don't mind though.  Adds character!

The designer's challenge this week was to use metal.  I chose to work with metal corners that I picked up at Lee Valley years ago, staples, and brads.  This challenge is happening RIGHT NOW - so go check it out at Color COMBOS Galore!

YAY Lesley, so glad to see you with Unity!!!! I miss your stamp designs and still treasure the ones I have that you designed!! Your shadow box is GORGEOUS! So many beautiful details to soak in!! I am excited, thus all of the exclamation points ;0!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Kelly!!!!  I LOVED seeing all that you created with the prim stamps!  Please email Jimmi at jimmi.mayo@gmail.com with your contact info (full name, address, and let her know that you won the "Kitchen Logic" set from the 08-26 blog hop)!

Here is another layout using my new Unity Stamps (Good Times Vintage Banner set).  This is my son at the age of 2.  He was the cutest toddler!  He is 8 now - time does fly!

Right under ME - is a stamp that's part of the Vintage Banner set.  I coloured the ME with Copics (used to be cream) and I applied some dots of Glossy Accents just for a little bump!

And here is the banner, some are coloured with Copics, the one on the left and right are stamped direct to patterned paper, and then inked.  I had the perfect size letters, so stuck them in there.....thinking....thinking.....of a 4 letter word......thinking of a title.....obviously it finally came to me - but it took a long while.  WALK WITH ME.

Most of the papers here are My Mind's Eye, the teal blue is Bo Bunny.

Well, have a wonderful weekend all you lovely ladies!

MY FIRST HIP HOP THURSDAY with UNITY!

First of all, I can't believe I'm doing a UNITY hip hop!  This is so exciting for me to be able to share with you the awesome news that I am a member of UNITY STAMP CO.'s scrapbooking design team!  I have been a fan for quite a while now, and I just love love love their red rubber stamps.

When I first discovered this hobby, I started out stamping on my layouts when I was part of a kit club that offered stamps with each kit.  I thought everyone stamped on layouts!  I then got into making cards and other crafty projects, but now I am back to my first love.  Memory keeping.

Unfortunately, I don't have a layout to share with you today, but a project I made using UNITY's "She Sprouted Wings" available in stores. This stamp set designed by Melody Ross spoke to me, and I just knew it deserved a themed project dedicated to my late Grandmother, Rita Louise Minion.  This was made using a 7 Gypsies Printer Tray.

Here is the set so that you can find the stamps in the project.

I have wanted to make bottle cap art for a while now, and I had an idea to use this woman as my first piece of art.  I stamped her once on the glimmer misted paper, then again on white paper.  I colored her head with COPICS, then cut her out and placed her into the bottle cap (which by the way is from a Bud Light Lime Beer - YUM!).  I put a good amount of Ranger's UTEE into the cap and melted it in the toaster oven.

I really tried to stick to a color theme of brown, blue, and cream.  I threw in a little lime green here and there for contrast.

My grandmother was diabetic, so I added the Jenni Bowlin sticker (drug store), the R is for RITA, and the The End signifies her passing, with a beautiful butterfly to remind me of her beautiful life.  The stamp set has empowering sayings, worthy of my grandmother's tale.  She was a woman of great class, and spunk, and she lived her life beautifully and with passion, and with heart.  She LOVED.  She always SMILED.  She had her own hat business, sewed, knit, created art, she was inspiring!

I felt like this project needed journaling, so I created 2 tags to be hidden on the back.  I spent some time hand writing my thoughts on the back of these misted tags.

She and my grandfather loved to travel, and experience new things.

I often wonder what her dreams were.  I wonder if she ever felt like her dreams didn't matter and that her family always came first.  She was a giver, always thinking of others.  I wonder if she ever took any time for herself.

I used buttons, and these Maya Road shapes (sewing machine and dress form) to signify her craftiness in making hats and clothes, knitting, etc.  I colored the chipboard, then applied Glossy Accents by Ranger.  I also distressed the printer tray by painting streaks of cream colored acrylic paint.

I hope you enjoyed your visit and I look forward to making more projects with UNITY stamps!

If you want to win yourself some UNITY stamps, simply leave a message on this post and I'll draw one winner to win this cute KITCHEN LOGIC stamp set!

Now onto the next blog to continue the Hip Hop...

Here's a PEEK of What I've Been Up To!

Last week, my friend and I went to a local scrapbook store and took a class using the 7 Gypsies Printer Tray.  While I was there, I picked up some Tattered Angels chipboard pieces - they are vintage and just up my alley.  I will reveal this whole project on Thursday along with some REALLY AWESOME NEWS.

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday, it's bright and sunny here!

And for some exciting news, I have a new Design Team to announce!  Over the past 6 months, since Tara opened shop, I have been playing with her kits from Up The Street Scrapbooking, and they are simply beautiful and the projects that I have made with them, I have been SO very proud of.  I am sharing with you my favourite project so far, made with the FEBRUARY 2010 kit.

Along with me, there is Julia Stainton, who I used to design with at Cornish Heritage Farms.  She is a fellow Ontario girl, who I have met in person and she is just so lovely and talented!

Also, there is Heather Derbecker and Mandy Starner, two very talented crafters!  Check out their blogs if you have time.

A My Mind's Eye Challenge

A friend of mine pointed out a blog challenge to me over at My Mind's Eye, a summertime sketch challenge, and it's due today!  Here is my take on it, and it's not too late if you want to play along too (as long as you have 80% MME products to use on a layout).  Thankfully, I had a ton!  Some I bought from my local scrapbook store Forever Scrapbooks, and some I got in a goodie box for being published in Scrapbook Trends.

Here is another BROWN organza flower I made, sitting on a paper that was treated with Glimmer Mist.

And below is a close up of the banner stamps I used from UNITY Stamp Co. (called Good Times Vintage Banner), part of their Scrapbooking Line.  I have colored them before on white paper, but this time, I stamped direct to patterned paper and then cut them out.  Sure save markers ink and I get a similar result!

REMINDER#1: The new color combo will be up TODAY at Color Combos Galore!

REMINDER #2: The post below has a RAK from me - HOMEMADE organza flowers!  Just leave a comment on that post to be able to win them!

My First Post at Simply Renee! RAK at BOTTOM of POST

If you have some time, check out my first post at Simply Renee - I have some little tips on how to organize trims (which I have a lot of).  And here is the project to go along with my first post:

Here you can see how I LOVE to layer trims, and spray them with Mists.  That stamp is a new one for me from UNITY Stamp Co. It's actually a larger block stamp, but I loved the top so much, I wanted to use it!

I also love placing my titles on top of lace (see below).  And if you haven't noticed already, I've been on  a kick making my own organza flowers, this time, I layered blue and brown.

Do you love that purple in there?  I had it on my desk while I was creating and it was screaming at me to be included in the layout!  It's Bo Bunny, the background paper is My Mind's Eye, and the 6x6 papers are 7 Gypsies. Flowers and pebbles of course are PRIMA.

And here is a picture of my plenty-of-flowers.  They are so pretty.  I've been giving some away at Scrapbook Star for our Summer Camp.
If you leave a comment on this post by Sunday August 22, I will pick from the comments and send 6 of these flowers your way!

Have a wonderful day!

The baby girl gem words have been in my stash for YEARS and I am so happy that I finally used them!

I also used up these old leaves from PRIMA.  The note pad is Jenni Bowlin.
